Returning officer Lynda McGavigan has formally declared the results of the local election in County Cavan.
The councillors elected in Bailieborough-Cootehill are:

Eighth count - Bailieborough LEA
The results of the eighth count in the Bailieborough Cootehill LEA. Following the distribution of Stiofán Conaty’s surplus votes, candidates Clifford Kelly, Val Smith, and Niall Smith are deemed elected
Seventh count - Bailieborough-Cootehill LEA
The results of the seventh count in the Bailieborough Cootehill LEA, which consists of the distribution of candidate Paddy McDonald’s votes. Candidate Stiofán Conaty is deemed elected. His surplus of 120 votes will now be distributed. #LE24 #Cavan
Sixth count - Bailieborough-Cootehill LEA
Results of the sixth count in the Bailieborough Cootehill LEA, which sees the distribution of candidate Kristofer Shekleton’s votes. No candidate has been deemed elected on this count. The lowest placed candidate, Paddy McDonald is now excluded and his votes will now be distributed
Fifth count - Bailieborough-Cootehill LEA
The results of the fifth count in the Bailieborough Cootehill LEA, which consists of the distribution of excluded candidate Garry Cosgrove’s 724 votes. No candidate has been deemed elected on this count. Kristofer Shekleton will now be excluded and his votes distributed.
Count Six - Cavan Belturbet LEA
Results of the sixth count in the Cavan-Belturbet LEA, which sees the distribution of Damien Brady’s surplus. Niamh Brady, John Paul Feeley, and Patricia Walsh are deemed elected.
Count Eight - Ballyjamesduff LEA
Results of the eighth count in the Ballyjamesduff LEA, which sees the distribution of Philip ’Gunner’ Brady’s surplus. Noel Connell and TP O’Reilly are deemed elected.
Count Four (following recount) Bailieborough-Cootehill LEA
7.30pm: The result of the fourth count in the Bailieborough Cootehill LEA, following a recount of the ballots of candidates Garry Cosgrove and Kristofer Shekleton. Garry Cosgrove will now be excluded and his votes distributed #LE24 #Cavan
Count Five - Cavan Belturbet LEA
Results of the fifth count in the Cavan-Belturbet LEA, which sees the distribution of the votes of Michael ‘Bricker’ Wall. Damien Brady is deemed elected. Damien Brady’s surplus of 298 votes will now be distributed
Count Seven - Ballyjamesduff LEA
6.20pm: Results of the seventh count in the Ballyjamesduff LEA, which consists of the distribution of excluded candidate Nathan Galligan’s votes. Candidates Winston Bennett and Philip ‘Gunner’ Brady are deemed elected. The surplus votes of Philip ‘Gunner’ Brady will now be distributed.
Count Six - Ballyjamesduff
Results of the sixth count in the Ballyjamesduff LEA, which consists of the distribution of excluded candidate Gráinne McPhillips’ 821 votes. No candidate has been elected on this count. Nathan Galligan will now be excluded and his votes distributed.
Count Four - Cavan-Belturbet
Results of the fourth count in Cavan Belturbet LEA, which sees distribution of votes of excluded candidates Liam Van Der Spek, Kevin Murphy, Susuana Komolafe, and Tinko Petrov Tinev. No candidate has been elected on this count. Michael ‘Bricker’ Wall will now be excluded and his votes distributed.
Count Four - Bailieborough Cootehill
Results of the fourth count in the Bailieborough-Cootehill LEA, which sees the distribution of Carmel Brady’s surplus of 12 votes. No candidate has been elected on this count. A request for a recount of the ballot papers of the two lowest candidates, Garry Cosgrove and Kristofer Shekleton, has been received and accepted, and a recount of these ballots will now take place.
Count Five - Ballyjamesduff
Results of the fifth count in the Ballyjamesduff LEA, which sees the distribution of Trevor Smith’s surplus of 63 votes. No candidate has been elected on this count. Candidate Gráinne McPhillips will now be excluded and her votes distributed #LE24 #Cavan
Count Three - Cavan-Belturbet
Results of the third count in Cavan-Belturbet LEA, consisting of the distribution of Brendan Fay’s surplus of 196 votes. No candidate has been elected on this count. Candidates Liam Van Der Spek, Kevin Murphy, Tinko Petrov Tinev and Susuana Komolafe will now be excluded and their votes distributed. #LE24 #Cavan
Count Three - Bailieborough Cootehill
Result from the third count in the Bailieborough-Cootehill LEA, which comprises the distribution of the votes of excluded candidates Marina McEntee, Fiona McCormack, and John (Seán O’Reilly). Carmel Brady is deemed elected. Carmel Brady's surplus of 12 votes will now be distributed.
Count Four - Ballyjamesduff
Result from the fourth count in the Ballyjamesduff LEA, consisting of the distribution of Angela Gaffney’s 569 votes. No candidate has been deemed elected on this count. Trevor Smith’s surplus of 63 will now be distributed.
Count Three - Ballyjamesduff
12:37pm: Result of the third count in the Ballyjamesduff LEA, comprising the distribution of Shane P O'Reilly's surplus of 174 votes. No candidates have been elected on this count. Candidate Angela Gaffney has now been eliminated and her 569 votes will be distributed #LE24 #Cavan

11.58am: Results of the second count in the Cavan-Belturbet Local Electoral Area, comprising the distribution of Áine Smith's surplus. No candidate has been elected on this count. Brendan Fay's surplus of 196 votes will now be distributed.
10.58am: Result of the second count in the Ballyjamesduff LEA, consisting of the distribution of Kieran Goggins' 109 votes. No candidate has been elected on this count. Shane P O'Reilly's surplus of 174 votes will now be distributed.
Count One
10.58am: Results of the first count in the Cavan-Belturbet Local Electoral Area. Candidates Brendan Fay and Áine Smith are deemed elected. Áine Smith's surplus will now be distributed. The count for the Cavan-Belturbet LEA has now been adjourned until 10am Sunday.
11.57am: Results of the second count in the Cavan-Belturbet Local Electoral Area, comprising the distribution of Áine Smith's surplus. No candidate has been elected on this count. Brendan Fay's surplus of 196 votes will now be distributed.
The results of the first count in the Ballyjamesduff Local Electoral Area are in. Candidates Shane P O'Reilly and Trevor Smith are deemed elected. The votes of lowest-placed candidate, Kieran Goggins will be distributed. The count in this LEA has been adjourned until 10am Sunday.
The result of the first count in the Bailieborough Cootehill LEA sees Sarah O'Reilly elected. Her surplus will now be distributed. The count in this LEA has now been adjourned until 10am Sunday morning.
Adjudication
00.09am: All doubtful votes in the three local electoral areas have now been adjudicated on.
9.20pm: Returning officer Lynda McGavigan has invited candidates and agents in the Ballyjamesduff LEA to observe and comment on the adjudication of doubtful ballots.

5.05pm: Returning Officer Lynda McGavigan has declared the first count underway at Cavan Leisure Centre.
Sorting concludes
4pm: Returning officer for the European Elections, Joe Smith, announces that the verification and segregation of the #EE24 votes is now complete. Returning officer for the local elections, Lynda McGavigan, has advised that the first count will commence shortly

3.30pm: Sorting of the European and Local Election votes is nearly complete. Postal local election votes are currently being counted.
