Social Integration

The LAIT (Local Authority Integration Team) is a new team in Cavan County Council
with responsibility for supporting the social and cultural integration of new
communities into Cavan. We work with Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection,
International Protection Applicants and Refugees. We provide 1:1 support clinics on an

The Ukrainian Hub Palyanytysa provides a space for activities, events and meetings
for adults and children from the Ukrainian community living in Cavan. As well as
providing English language classes and information on important topics; the Hub
allows Ukrainian people to keep their culture and traditions alive, meet new people and
integrate into their new community. They provide counselling services, weekly support
clinics and youth groups.

Family resource centres aim to target those most vulnerable in the community and
support them to overcome social isolation. They provide a range of supports and
services for families while also regularly running events that facilitate social and
cultural integration in the community.

Teach Oscail Family Resource Centre is located centrally in Cavan Town. They advertise
information on services and events throughout the county on their Community Page

Volunteering is a great way to actively participate in and feel connected to your
community. Cavan Volunteer Centre provides a range of opportunities within Cavan.
You can sign up to be a volunteer on their website volunteercavan.ie

Parent and toddler groups are where parents of young children can come together
socially. The group takes place in a child friendly environment and there is an
opportunity for children to engage in play with other children and for parents and

Men’s Shed’s are spaces for like-minded men to gather and spend time together
socially and engage in various activities such as walking, gardening, carpentry and
community work. Many retired men join a Men’s shed to socialise as they miss the
working world and also to pass on a skill or learn a new one. You can find a Men’s shed

Hen’s Shed’s (or women’s shed’s) do not operate under a National Forum like Men’s
Shed’s, however, there are a few located in County Cavan:

- Belturbet Hen’s Shed meet every Wednesday morning 10.30am - 12.30pm at The
goods store, The Railway Station, Belturbet.

- Kilnaleck Hen’s Shed meet every Tuesday morning 10.30am – 12.30pm at The
Realtóg Centre.

- Cootehill Women’s Shed meet every Friday morning 10.30am – 12.00pm at St.
Michaels Hall.

- Cavan Hens shed

- Ballinagh Hens shed
