Over €1 million announced in funding as part of the Community Recognition Fund
The Government has announced over €1 million in funding for 13 projects across Cavan as part of the first ever Community Recognition Fund.
The major initiative is designed to support and reward communities that have welcomed families and citizens from Ukraine and other countries.
The projects range from upgrades to community facilities, outdoor walkways, playgrounds and accessible community transport.
The €50 million Community Recognition Fund has been allocated across all local authorities based on the number of new arrivals located there.
The Fund, administered by the Department of Rural and Community Development, follows an extensive consultation process with local authorities who submitted their individual list of projects for approval.
Welcoming the funding Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Councillor John Paul Feeley said “Today’s announcement from the government is excellent news, this funding will greatly enhance facilities for every community throughout our county. I wish to thank the Cavan County Council Officials who work with community groups to prepare such worthy applications.”
Chief Executive of Cavan County Council, Tommy Ryan said “this finding is an important and welcome boost to communities across the county who have welcomed families from Ukraine and other countries. The funding will be used for deserving projects that everyone in the community will benefit from.”

Blacklion | Purchase land at the Fair Green adjacent to land recently purchased by Cavan County Council to allow development of these lands for community use. | €150,000 |
Ballinagh | Redevelopment of existing picnic and seating area which was completed 30 years ago and is in need of a major upgrade to allow it to function as a community recreational area and meeting place again. Upgrade of walking track in the community owned sports pitch in the centre of Ballinagh which would include reinstatement of the surface and improvements to existing lighting | €90,000 |

Kingscourt | Creation of classroom type training facilities at Railway Station Complex to provide spaces for courses for all the community including English language classes for new communities. | €115,000 |
Shercock | 1. Wheelchair Accessible toilet to be installed at running track. 2. Lighting Upgrade to track is required for users of facility and will promote inclusion of often marginalised groups. The upgrade to lighting will improve safety and usage of site while reducing costs to community owned facility | €40,000 |
