Cavan County Council is delighted to publish a Climate Action Plan for the period 2024-2029. In accordance with this plan, Cavan County Council will be a climate resilient and low carbon organisation that inspires, leads, and supports ambitious action to achieve a climate neutral local economy
Climate Action Plan 2024-2029
In adherence to governmental directives and legal obligations, the elected members of Cavan County Council formally adopted the Cavan Local Authority Climate Action Plan 2024-2029 during their February 2024 session.
Cavan County Council aims to transform into a resilient, low-carbon entity, igniting, guiding, and enabling ambitious and equitable climate initiatives across the region.
For years, Local Authorities have been actively combatting climate change across all sectors, playing a crucial role in both mitigating and adapting to its impacts. This commitment is underscored by the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Act, 2021, mandating each Local Authority to craft a tailored Climate Action Plan (CAP) outlining measures for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 51% before 2030. These plans align with Ireland's binding climate targets to slash emissions by the same margin by 2030.
The Cavan Local Authority Climate Action Plan delineates Cavan County Council's pledge to bolster climate resilience, enhance energy efficiency, and diminish greenhouse gas emissions within its jurisdiction, encompassing assets, services, and infrastructure. Furthermore, the Council assumes a broader role, inspiring, leading, and facilitating other sectors to pursue their own climate objectives.
